WCBC fully recognizes that according to Christ's call, His disciples were to begin their work of spreading the gospel in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and then go to the uttermost parts of the world. (Acts 1:8)
Our home missions efforts center around the preaching and teaching of God’s revealed Word, as we invite all to come and find truth in a world overrun by falsehood. Additionally, we believe that God has strategically placed WCBC as an outpost for His kingdom right here in Williamstown, WV. We not only recognize this strategic positioning, but we also recognize the spiritual giftedness of each individual believer. It is our desire to edify and strengthen our member's with regards to their God-given gifts so that they will engage them for evangelism, ministry and service.
Although we offer ministries that are specifically intended to reach children, students and adults in a variety of different ways, we recognize that the call to be witnesses of Christ in the world has its emphases upon believers going into our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods and the greater community with the hope of the gospel, both in proclamation and faithful testimony through our lives. We seek to involve our members in local community ministry opportunities such as service and support of food pantries, the Women's Care Center, kids Christmas chorale program at the local mall and Relay for Life.
Finally, we cooperate with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) in support of local church planting, community outreach, disaster relief and short term mission projects within the United States.
With the disciples who first received it, we wish to obey Christ’s commission to evangelize the world (Matthew 28:18-20). Accordingly, we work in our church body to foster a keen awareness of the need for missions work in foreign countries. We have partnered with specific missionaries through the International Mission Board (IMB) and OMF International to reach a specific people group. Members from WCBC have traveled to serve with the onsite team, both through short term and long term opportunities. Additionally, we have sent some of our people to other parts of the world as well for short term opportunities. It is our desire to lead our members in an cooperative effort in lending support to missionaries and testing their own personal call to the mission field. Additionally, when visiting the US, we are privileged to host missionaries at WCBC, giving them opportunities for rest, sharing their experiences, building relationships with the WCBC family and to be spiritually recharged.
The Cooperative Program
WCBC also tithes 10% of our church budget to the Cooperative Program. Fifty percent of Cooperative Program giving supports the International Mission Board, or IMB, which oversees SBC foreign missions work. Together with other churches in our convention, we assist over 5,000 full-time missionaries as they labor to spread the gospel in foreign lands.
Additionally, we give directly to non-SBC missionaries as they translate the Bible, plant churches and serve the needs of people – all in the name of Christ.
